Go For God

After a month where most of our energies were consumed by prayer, we spent this past week doing both praying and going. Cathy and I knocked on the doors of 75 homes on our block and invited them to a free neighborhood block party. Plus, some of our team members knocked on another 125 doors inviting them to the party.  Over 100 of our neighbors came to the block party at our house and loved it! This would not have happened unless we had gone and knocked on all of those doors inviting people to come.

Also, this week, our team went and knocked on another 750 doors in the neighborhoods surrounding a city park–we invited people to a free block party we held in that park on Saturday night. Over 150 people showed up and had a great time. Better yet, over 25 families expressed interest in attending our Preview Worship Service July 22nd. Yeah God! This could not have happened unless we had gone and knocked on all of those doors inviting people to come.

In my community in Las Vegas there are over 40,000 people and only one small Christian churchIf we don’t go and show them the love of God and tell them the gospel, our neighbors will not know Jesus.

We have found that, if we go invite them, they might come. If we don’t invite them, they won’t come.  So why do we go? Why are we willing to spend hundreds of dollars to offer a free party for people we have never met before? We are trying to obey the words of Jesus in Luke 14:16-23.

1Then He told him: “A man was giving a large banquet and invited many.17 At the time of the banquet, he sent his slave to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

21 … the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’

22 “‘Master,’ the slave said, ‘what you ordered has been done, and there’s still room.’

23 “Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.

In an average congregation, 77.6 percent of new members say they came to church because someone invited them.  But only 5 percent of members in congregations regularly invite someone. If we don’t invite, they won’t come.

  • Pray for our upcoming summer block parties – July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, August 4th and August 11th
  • Pray for our Preview Worship Service – July 22nd
